While having the same 1-2-3 pattern as “Rhythm in Thirds”, the effect with this piece is much different. That’s because the shape is different, but also the pattern pieces are much larger in relation to overall size of the piece. The pattern doesn’t set up a repeating rhythm in the same way. Staccato is defined as, “Cut short crisply; detached.” While the pattern embodies a waltz rhythm, each part is distinct from its neighbors.
