I’ve used this motif a number of times. Abstracted bird-like shapes repeat in a pattern following the form of the vessel up to the opening at the top. Some years ago, a visitor to my open studio event told me about seeing a flight of swallows flying in a murmuration near a huge old, abandoned industrial brick chimney. As he watched, suddenly the birds all zipped down into the chimney, disappearing. That’s not exactly what I had in mind with this motif, but it seems like an apt expression in the material world of my deeper concept.
