Integrating birds into the metaphysical motif adds the notion of flight. After the glaze fire, using gold luster, I hand painted birds flying out of the inside and approaching the ocean at the bottom of the piece. When you paint with gold luster, you’re applying a gooey dark brown liquid that’s not easy to handle. When fired to a low cone 017 or 018 temperature, this unattractive and odoriferous substance magically turns to gold! This piece also has a black river rock at its top.
